Are You A Computer Potato?

Posted on June 8, 2009 by Bert

Working at the computer for hours a day leads to just as big a rear-end spread as sitting on the couch all day watching television. But you ve got work to do. How can you avoid the poor fitness that comes with a sit down job. First, the wisest thing you can do is to schedule breaks every fifteen to twenty minutes. Walk around and do something different for a few minutes. People tend to think that the interruption of thought will hinder their work. On the contrary, folks who actually take these breaks insist that they have twice as much energy and get nearly quadruple the amount of work done each day. The brain refreshes, sort of like your webpage does. When you come back to a task after a break, you re more refreshed and ready to tackle your current project. If you have a laptop, that s even better. Take it to a different room every hour and a half. Watch how your overall energy increases as you change scenery once in a while. During the wait time on your computer there s so much of this you can do a few stretches. While your page is loading, try these neck exercises to reduce strain and stress in this area. Slowly, turn your head to the right as far as you can...

What Are Cataracts And How Do You Prevent Them?

Posted on April 3, 2009 by Jesus

As the population ages, cataracts are becoming a growing health concern. A cataract is a clouding of the eye lens to such an extent that it affects vision. The majority of cataracts develop due to the aging process, and by age 80, more than half of all Americans have them. However, there are also other type of cataracts: secondary cataracts, which form after surgery for other ophthalmic diseases such as glaucoma; traumatic cataracts, which can develop after an eye injury; congenital cataracts; and radiation-inducted cataracts. Cataracts can occur in just one eye, or bilaterally. Age-related cataracts can develop in two ways. Protein clumping in the capsule of lens causes poor transmission of light, leading to blurred and cloudy vision. Also, the normally clear lens can develop a yellow or brown tint, making it difficult to differentiate between dark colors such as dark blue and black . Risk factors for the development of cataracts include aging, certain diseases such as diabetes which also causes diabetic retinopathy , personal behavior such as smoking and alcohol abuse, and environmental professional factors such as exposure to radiation or sunlight. For...

Become A Millionaire - Stop Smoking

Posted on January 26, 2009 by Elijah

So you want to be a millionaire. If you smoke or are thinking about it - I will give you at least 1 million reasons not to start. For the sake of discussion, I am going to use me as an example. I have smoked for over 20 years and frankly I enjoyed it. It wasn t until I finally got it through my head about the health risks to me, my family and the rising costs that I finally decided to quit. You all know or should know about the health risks and I will not rehash it. What I want to talk to you about is the financial impact. I smoked 2 packs of cigarettes per day and on a good Friday night out on the town it could sometimes be as much as 3 packs. here it comes. Two packs of cigarettes per day at an average cost of 3.50 per pack multiplied by seven days equals 49.00 per week or 2555.00 for one year. Now lets take a teenager at age 18 who starts to smoke and lets also assume they were to stop at age 65 on retirement which is 47 years. Now a hundred and twenty thousand dollars is in itself not enough to make you rich but you could buy some pretty nice stuff for that amount. The magic is in a little thing called compound interest. Assuming that instead of smoking - You...

Key To Success: Health

Posted on December 15, 2008 by Xavier

Mens sana in corpore sano. -- Juvenal I am not trying to say that success cannot exist without good health, but I believe the two can complement each other, and health can significantly contribute to success. After all, what better example of health NOT relating to success than the noted British mathematician Stephen Hawking. If you are not familiar with Hawking, he has long been severely disabled byamyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS commonly known in the United States as Lou Gehrig s disease . His quadrapelagic condition, confinement to a wheel chair, and loss of the ability to speak could certainly have stood in the way of his attaining international recognition for his work, but in spite of this health related obstacle, he HAS produced a prodigious and internationally respected body of work. Fortunately, most of us will never have to cope with Mr. Hawking s obstacles and, at the very least, after viewing his troubles; we should stop thinking so hard about our own. However, OUR health can be an obstacle to success, and, having attained success, can be an obstacle to the enjoyment of the fruits of our labors. The quote at the top of this page translates to A...

Me? Snoring? No Way!!!

Posted on October 24, 2008 by Ching

When you ask people: Do you snore . Most of them, especially the ladies, will tell you: NO WAY . Snoring is very common, we snore because sometimes when we breathe through our mouth it causes vibration of the uvula; we also snore when we have a blockage in the breathing passage, such as when we have a cold. So no matter what they tell you we all snore at some point. Even the ladies And now that we agreed on that we can talk about how to prevent it and get rid of it. Although common, snoring is a very embarrassing thing for people. We don t like to disturb other people without being able to control it and we don t want anyone to think badly about us. So what can we do about it. We can use some common methods such as, drops or stickers we can buy at the local store, or we can make some home remedies from things we can find at home. It is a very easy, inexpensive and accessible way. The first thing I recommend is eating yogurt every day, it really helps but it s not enough when I get have a bad congestion. So I also drink a cup of milk before I go to bed. If you don t like dairy products or you get mucus from it, you can also eat a slice of bread with any spread you...
